• funny best man speeches
    mspizzazzy asked:

I’ve known both the bride and groom since elementary school (we’re all 30). I went to the prom with the bride (friends only…no getting lucky!!). Bride and groom only started dating after college. I’ve been best friends with groom since high school. HAVE ANY LINES TO USE to bring this up in a funny/clever way?????

You might joke that she moved on to bigger and better things … or that her taste improved … she later rethought her prerequisites in order to actually get the perfect man … do it in a way that has you laughing at yourself and praising the groom

I might just avoid it all together.

While the three of you might understand what you mean in your speech, the rest of both families will be confused, and might feel you are bitter. Bringing up past relationships, even if you didn’t “get lucky” might kind of “rain on their parade”.

I suggest leaving it at something like “We shared some wonderful times together” it is more tactful and appropriate for a wedding. There is nothing wrong with making a speach at the bacholor party about the prom thing, but it is so far in the past that it should probably stay there.

I wish you all the luck that being a best man can bring.

I agree with previous posters - bringing up this subject without sounding tacky or inappropriate is probably impossible.

since it’s a funny joke between the three of you, i think it’s okay. I wouldn’t be offended! But at my wedding, my husband’s best man did say something dumb about some other ex-girlfriend, and although I love him, I wanted to PUNCH him after his speech, because he made me look kinda stupid, since i didn’t know what he was talking about, and it was just not cool. nothing looks worse than a bride being embarrassed or looking stupid at her own wedding… its her day! if she’d be comfortable with it, you know the groom would be okay too!
